Wrote this in a reply email in one of the discussion in The Emmaus milist. I thought let it be one of the written down thoughts of mine here...
Just something that I read in a book given to me by a very good friend of mine...
God created human with emotion and what God created is good. Emotion is a part of us. Emotion is not about right or wrong... - Not exactly the wording, but it's more or less there. It's from the book "Why Am I Afraid To Tell You Who I Am"
My thought... We must be careful not to manipulate the beautiful creation of God to be as low as a tool where we can take control and make use of. Emotion is NOT a tool to motivate ourselves. Emotion can be one of the direction to help us with discernment, even so it is not the factor on which basis we make our decision.
God gives us desires... when God created us, he has a blue print and it is in us. One of the 'feature' (technical people use technical terms =P) is to worship. It is human's desire to worship their creator (which is God). If human does not know God or does not realize this, they will find something to worship. Either material things (money, car, condo, kfc -.-") or other humans (friends, your loved ones, etc) or status or even... themselves. - got it from Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Life".
For me reading the book purpose driven life gives me a better perpective of why I'm wanting things in life and help me to filter which one I should follow. It's a good book to read hehe.
Just a thought that came up we don't build our desires... God give us our desire. I understand that we need to take a stand and to an extent be able to be independent; as in build our dreams, go and get it, make something out of our life etc. But as servants of Christ... we shouldn't be too independent. These 2 days reading has been from Job. In the reflection in word among us, it says that when a christian is more mature, they are more dependent to God... not more independent to God.
So yea, I guess
be brave enough to do what is right,
be humble enough to listen to what others think about you,
be childlike enough to be loved,
be mature enough to love others,
be strong enough to stand for your faith,
be fragile enough to depend on God for everything in life
be less of your self
and be more like Christ.
Another two-cent.... God bless....
